10 Feb Natural man
The natural man is simply a man whose spirit is dead. This nature is what we inherited from Adam. The natural man’s soul clings to the body, and the body is in charge. Everything the soul feeds on is the pleasure of the ‘flesh’. In this state, the man is entirely dependent on human wisdom and ability. The direction and decisions he makes are purely on gut feel (or instinct) alone, and the Holy Spirit is not engaged at all. His natural tendency is to pursue sin rather than lead a life of righteousness. It is simply a life void of the Holy Spirit. A natural man does not even understand scriptures nor appreciate the power therein. He is said to be spiritually blind. The things of God are foolishness to him. He would rather acquire material things that will give his flesh pleasure than to consider the things of God. In this state, man is unsaved as he is still in the original (sinful) state inherited from Adam.
To conform to God’s image, the natural man needs regeneration. This is because while in this natural state, the best that can come out of the man are the desires of the flesh because,
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit”
John 3:6
